When I was an undergrad, I always wondered what goes on inside this building because I have never entered it even before I finished my bachelor’s degree. My friends and I affectionately called it “ROMVLO” because of the Latin spelling. Little did I know I’d be spending a lot of time here for my grad years because I took Asian Studies as cognate.
But their library was housed on a new building sponsored by Toyota, thus the GT-Toyota Asian Center naming. I heard it through the grapevine that some did not agree with this, given the public nature of the university and such sponsorship was contradicting of this philosophy. Anyway, they built a decent building with the only working elevator I knew of inside the university.
I love seeing books on shelves and I’m completely at home in the library. I thank our grade school librarian for being so lenient with me and my sister in borrowing books, in exchange for us delivering all educational materials (e.g. Science, Math magazines etc.) from room to room.
And the books I’ve been eager to borrow since the start of the month! I got them and checked the borrower’s card (or whatever you call it) at the back and found out the person who failed to return them on time:
Oh dear, I knew her! She was a very kind classmate of mine, whose beautiful pre-nup concept of Noli Me Tangere I have posted about last month! I’m so sorry if I called you an abysmally delinquent person yesterday, I have already changed it to very busy. =D I also know Kristine (she lent me an important book I’ve been using to review), Sir Velasco was my professor for IS 201 last semester and Anna was also my classmate in Sir Velasco’s class. Very small pool of people borrowing these books. LOL
Finally, I had the gall to take this picture. LOL I just can’t pass up the opportunity to have lots of books around me. As what they’ve mentioned in Super 8 — production value.
The building is still so nice, that you can lie on the pristine bathroom floor.
If only every building in the university were this new — but that would be wishful thinking. Anyway, students in the university can thrive in this environment and still deliver and excel. The environment was never a big hindrance.
