We have long decided that Mon and I were to spend New Year’s Eve at home after spending Christmas with his family. His family went north to Laoag to spend the New Year there. One thing we had to take note, though, was the logistics with our 3 cats.
We had some practice two Christmases ago, when we traveled to Marikina with the 3. It was not the most perfect set-up, but we managed to eventually get there in the end.
This time, the ride up the mountains was very smooth. There were also a lot of motorists who looked clearly amazed with the cats peeking through the window during the travel.
For the New Year’s Eve dinner, all of us had several things that we’d like to literally bring to the table. Mon had to prepare his low carb ‘lasagna’ (if you can even call it as such with the absence of the lasagna), while I had the grazing board to look after. I even bought some lechon belly from a seller around the area.
Mama and my sister, on the other hand, had to do most of cooking – as always. The dish I was most excited of was the buttered shrimp, which was a New Year’s Eve staple now.
The table was all ready around 11:00 am, but JB, Brie and me had been already eating everything we could get our little hands on. I even had to eat those sour cream crackers that tasted so good (thanks, S&R!).
It was my first New Year in our new home, as last year, Mon and I spent it in Makati. It was the first time that neither of us had to spent it in either of our families, and it was an experience in itself.
As the clock struck midnight, everyone was already outside, ready to light the fountain and the Roman candles. We had to buy these last minute by the street leading up to the subdivision. We were, at first, not sure of the quality, but the second Roman candle confirmed otherwise.
It did not lit at all.LOL
We bought around 20 of those, and about 1/3 did not show even the slightest spark. Good thing that all the fountains lit, albeit for only about 20 seconds. We got what we paid for, I guess.
first Before the first meal of the year… literallyThe following morning, I woke up quite late with a bad headache. I am extremely sensitive of smoke, and my nostrils were fill with fumes from last night’s festivities.
I immediately went to the 3 cats, who had to stay in a makeshift big cage made of 2 cages. On the other hand, I also noticed that our senior cat, Miso, looked to be under the weather (mental note to ask my family to bring her to the vet as soon as they open the following day.
My brother and sister-in-law, as well as our cousin, and JB’s girlfriend, also arrived for our usual first lunch. Despite the throbbing headache, I had a blast.
While Papa had to fetch us here in Makati with the cat’s yesterday, my brother, on the other hand, volunteered to drive us back. Good thing they did not have any dogs in tow with them, and it was a fuss-free ride travel back.
The cats were too delighted to be back where they can freely scratch our sofa to their heart’s delight. Happy New Year!
