Lighting inspiration from ‘Dulcinea’

I was on leave after my first work, but I still dropped by the office so Mon and I can go together in Glorietta 4. I have already booked two tickets the night before for an 8:55 PM showing of ‘After Earth’, so that we no longer had to queue after rushing from Ayala FGU. I wanted to go to Shakey’s because I’ve been weirdly craving for greasy potatoes (i.e. mojos), but we ended up in Dulcinea.

Unscrew you, Technomarine!

Almost six months ago, I got a free Technomarine watch from the company I’ve been working for as a token of appreciation for the five-year service. Since getting it, I have never bothered changing the date and day because I had no clue how to work that dial to the right. As long as the time is right, then I’m fine with that. Fast forward yesterday (or today as it is already early Monday morning), I had a problem with the watch. I was on my way to UP and was chasing the time before 5:00 PM in order to get the official photos of my graduation last Saturday. I was in no rush because I thought I still had about 45 minutes to reach the UP Film Center, so I was really lax with my movement. However, I’ve noticed that the time in my watch was 30 minutes late from the time on my cellphone — my watch has stopped working.

I initially had no luck in adjusting the time, it was really difficult to unscrew this watch - Technomarine watch

We were in Trinoma to watch Iron Man 3 and I was already in the brink of visiting Technomarine’s shop on the 3rd floor because the watch is still under warranty for eighteen more months. But what would I say? Sure they will ask about what happened, and I honestly did not know whether I have mishandled the watch prior to leaving the house. I did not want to lie point blank and look foolish. Also, I did not have the warranty card with me as it was stashed in the box at home, so I subsequently decided to just visit another shop in the Makati area on Monday . So the moment I reached my room, I immediately looked for the box and check if all the accessories were still in: all clear. Being the curious, mend-it-on-your-own person that I am, I took out the little screw driver provided and tinkered with that dial. Nothing happened. I was also gullible and desperate enough to use cylindrical cap of the screw driver because I thought it was intended to turn the dial. LOL No chance. I had a feeling that I just needed to move that dial and/or unstuck something inside and then it would work again.

I understand both of the languages, but still the manual was of no help - Technomarine watch

I looked at the manual (or more of a leaflet, because it was so miniscule), and maybe I would have more luck since the first and last time I’ve looked at it when I got the watch. I might have been missing something because I was still not able to make the 1-2-3 nor A-B work. It says ‘unscrew’ the dial but  my right fingers were already sore from the repeated attempts to at least see a development. I got so frustrated that I had a momentary fit and threw the watch haphazardly to the box. Then something magical happened: it started ticking again!

Using a face towel and a microfiber cloth to unscrew the watch - Technomarine watchHowever, there was clearly a disparity with the time displayed on the watch and the actual time, and the problem of unscrewing that dial still persisted. I was worried to use a pair of tweezers, or pliers or other tools because it might put noticeable dents and it was a sure way to void the warranty. So I tried my luck with a face towel and a microfiber cloth (I usually use to clean optics) because I needed a good grip. And then for the first time in months, I finally managed to unscrew the dial. LOL I heard the “Hallelujah Chorus” being played by an invisible orchestra.

For the first time ever, the watch reflects the correct day and date - Technomarine watch

I was very pleased because I no longer have to wake up early and make a beeline for the mall to have the watch checked and be subjected, or worse, be forced to lie. I also then promise to take more care of the watch as I know I’m not too inclined to buy this kind of watch for myself. Lesson learned: be extra careful!

P.S.

Happy 4Y8M Mon! =)

Yay for 4Y6M!

Today, Mon and I celebrated our 4th year and 6th month together. Six months more and half a decade will have already passed. But because we were already on leave last Monday, we just had our dinner in Ayala Triangle and tried a place, from which we have never eaten from before.

Ayala Triangle on a windy, Wednesday evening

Mon wanted to eat at Wee Nam Kee, located in that strip of restaurants in Ayala Triangle. He had been itching to try their Hainanese chicken and I was also curious to see how good their dish would be. There were not a lot of people dining, though, because most of them were outside Banapple waiting for their turn to be seated. LOL

I love their interior, especially the arch on the way to the kitchen, because it reminded me of a garden I visited with Mon and Ikle in Macau in 2010.

See you again in July!

Today is Mon and I’s 4th year and 5th month together and a few minutes after the clock had struck 12, he gave me a piece of paper with a note and a drawing of the Eiffel Tower and some French macarons from Max’s. =D

First of all, I did not even know that these are called as such, and I initially thought that there was a mistake with the spelling (i.e. macaroons). The irony of a French major not knowing French food.

We had a plan to meet up with Ikle today because he is going back to China tomorrow until the semester ends in July. As it is still winter there, I decided to just give him one of the trench coats I bought last November online.

Visiting my house in the ‘uplands’

My house when it was still being built - August 2010

My house when it was still being built – August 2010

Today is Mon and I’s 4th year and 4th month together! =D We did not go out yesterday (as we normally go out on a Saturday) because we had a better and more important agenda today. We have agreed to visit the house I’ve been paying for the past two years. I last visited my house in December 18, 2010 and these were some photos we’ve taken:

Me by the door - December 2010

By the stairs - December 2010

I’ve put off visiting the house for two years because I had no intention moving to the place and I did not want to feel pressured. But following the New Year and submitting another set of PDCs to PAG-IBIG last Friday, I hope to finally move in before the year ends. This means that I will have to be more mindful of my expenses and be more smart over the things that I will buy — it is, hopefully, a powerful deterrent against impluse buying. =D Time to think of the future!

Anyway, it took us an hour to travel and our friends, Rio and Dang, were already waiting for us. They have been living in their own townhouse in the village, or exactly five units from mine, for almost two years already and they have agreed to ‘host’ our visit. As my unit was one of the first ones in the block, I Immediately noticed that my house looked peculiar from the outside and needed closer inspection. But we went straight to Rio and Dang’s place to rest and eat lunch. We felt extremely grateful that they have even prepared a special lunch for us: seafood paella. It was the first time that they have cooked one and Dang was most especially hear our verdict over its taste. It was superb!

After eating lunch, we headed back to my house and inspected it. I was slightly horrified because I did not expect things to be, well, different. It needed a lot of repairs and my two years of neglect have finally caught up. Well, Rio and Dang said that some of the parts, like kitchen sink, cabinet handles, shower heads, faucets, etc., should be removed because they might get stolen. But I did not expect the windows and doors to be in a messy state. I now plan to contact the developer to declare my intent to move in, provided they repair what must be repaired. It must also be noted that my neighbor, directly to the right, has decided to make my living room as the garage of their kidie bike. =/

What happened to my kitchen

Anyway, I shouldn’t be surprised because I have admittedly neglected it. I assumed that it was enough for me to just pay my monthly mortgages, without any intention of keeping a close eye on the property. I have the whole week ahead to amend things and hopefully, the house will be ready within a few months.

Overall, it was a nice day. Mon and I also got to visit Antipolo church before heading back to the ‘lowlands’ to eat dinner and watch a movie. ‘Sisterakas‘ was a funny movie but I personally preferred ‘Sosy Problems‘ more. The old tricks of Ai-Ai and Vice no longer amazed me and the few saving moments were that staircase-incident re-enactment and the showdown of commercial endorsements of the three.

And two more months before the fourth!

Mon and I were on halfday leave earlier because it was our 3rd year and 10th month together! Last month, we also did the same thing — movie with dinner because we still had to go to work, even for half of our normal shift. We watched “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and it was really good! Quite bloody but what can I expect from a vampire movie! (Not unless we include that movie with the sparkly vampires *shudders*).

And I did not know that Erin Wasson was there! She was malevolent and I had to explain to Mon that he has already seen her. I even had to mention that she was on the first episode of the Cycle 16 of ANTM, the one with the giant bubble on the runway with the contestants modelling Alexander Wang. It was only then that he recalled. =P

A pile of papers

It’s already 3:00 AM and I just finished organizing ALL of my readings for 12 subjects, all the way from 2009 when I started graduate school. I will be waking by quarter to nine and will leave the house by 9:40 AM and hopefully will study in the library until quarter to two.

I’ve been sneezing since lunch time when I started fixing these readings and I’m having a relapse because I added the ones I brought home from the office. I have already developed a strategy for studying in mind and hopefully it will work.
