It has been 10 years and a couple of months since Mon and I moved together in a small apartment in Makati. It was an oddly shaped 12 sqm apartment, which was enough for us at the time.
Fast forward to this year, 15 years together, and 4 apartments all in all, we started looking at a permanent place where we could settle down.
As the catastrophizing me who is afraid of what climate change would do to Metro Manila, I proposed we moved permanently to the uplands. And our search for that place enough for us and the three cats began.
We first spotted this 40 sqm townhouse and felt it was the perfect size for us.
It was, however. semi-bare, which also meant we had to do considerable repair/renovation on the property. We ran the numbers and frankly became half and half on it.
We did show our interest on it to the broker (and eventually found it was being flipped), but because of issues with formalities and paperworks, it did not push through.
Good thing we also began looking at another property in the same area, as we had a feeling that we needed another option.
The other one was slightly bigger by 20 sqm. It also meant it cost a bit more. On the other hand, it was a bungalow which had a small space for a garden, and a space where we could put a catio for the three cats.
We had to think long and hard. In this economy, we contemplated whether it was a wise decision to get our own place.
But it is already our 15 years together. And without sounding as conformity to heteronormative norms, we really just wanted to have enough room for the cats to run around.
Thus after carefully thinking about it, we decided to push through with it. Although it would (to no surprise) take a considerable time with the paperworks and the loan application, we are likely to move early 2024.
Unlike the first house, there were less work to be done with this second and final house. Still, we had to be very prudent but not too conservative.
I am just excited for the cats to be there with us with that space.🙏🏻
