Cats and UPCAT

Today, I volunteered to fix, prepare and secure the application form of Mon’s sister, who will be taking the UPCAT this August. It was the last day of filing for non-Metro Manila schools and there were a lot of people in the Admissions.

I had paid earlier at a bank near my place because I knew that the queue for the Landbank branch inside the campus would be unimaginable — and I was right. It took me about an hour to finish everything before I got the test permit around lunchtime.

I even got a map of the campus in the releasing area, when I realized moments after that it was unnecessary — she was scheduled to take the exam in Cavite. Oh well, souvenir!

But the most interesting part of the day was seeing how cats and kittens really rule the campus! It’s pretty normal to see the following scenarios everywhere:

In UP, they are pretty much part of the community and these cats are not exactly feral because you can touch and play with them (if they let you). One thing’s for sure: you don’t hurt them! Especially after what happened to the National Institute of Physics’ resident cat, which was murdered by a student, everybody now knows of the unspoken rule that they are not to be messed with.

On another note, I have formally applied for graduation this semester and will be taking the comprehensive exams this August. I’m still baffled why I have to take the language proficiency exam from the department that gave me my undergraduate diploma. I was advised that asking for a waiver for this requirement will take much longer time and effort than just taking the exam this July. So July and August, the following months will be extremely academic.
