I am still under medication until Saturday morning, and as much as I wanted to procrastinate, I should definitely take my meds on time. I now wake up very early for 10:00 AM, followed by 2:00 PM, then 6:00 PM, and finally by 1:00 AM. But for a week, I had to eat something before 2:00 PM and it was more of a challenge because by that time, I should be on my way to the office.
The very friendly staffHowever, I remember that very cozy-looking Dunkin’ Donuts in Farmers Plaza and decided that I’d go here for the next five days for a quick snack just to try the sandwiches in their menu.
Normally, you just order for your food, wait for it, and take your tray to the nearest table. But I was surprised upon ordering, that aside from not paying immediately, they will just bring your food with you and ask for payment after. That was something new inside Dunkin’ Donuts. Since I were due to take my meds by exactly 2:00 PM, it took them only about 5 minutes to fix my sandwich (their bunwich meal, inclusive of an orange or iced tea drink, starts at Php 75).
After wolfing the whole thing down, I was reminded by Mon to take pictures of their blueberry donuts (he loves blueberry a lot, especially in cheesecakes). Well, more than just taking the picture, I just bought the last two piece left and another almond caramel. He was surprised and was really pleased like a little kid with the blueberry! LOL The box of three cost me Php 100! ;D
When I was young, I only know of Dunkin’ Donuts. I had fond memories of them as it was the only smell I can recognize with my eyes closed. If I sense the sweet, sugary smell in the air, I knew right away that there was a kiosk/store just around the corner.
But with the competition rallied up by Mister Donuts in the late 90s, as well as the burgeoning of donut establishments in the country today (most particularly the introduction of Krispy Kreme in the Philippines in 2006), Dunkin’ Donuts took a relative backseat in the people’s consciousness. Don’t get me wrong, I like Krispy Kreme, but it is something I would NOT eat everyday because of its excessively sweet donuts. Not to mention, the price is just insane. However, you can see every Krispy Kreme store here bursting with customers.
To make the story short, I’m happy that Dunkin’ Donuts is doing its best to compete in the donut wars. I’d take a butternut over an original glazed any day. And it presumably has less calories too! LOL
