The Heat… once again!

About a year ago,  I was fortunate enough to be tagged along when a colleague of mine won a Facebook contest for a free buffet for 20 people in HEAT, EDSA Shangri-la! This year might not be free but at least it was on a discount. LOL One of my high school friends, Len, arranged a get-together a month ago because she’d be back here in Manila from Indonesia for a couple of weeks. For a minimum of five people, we would be paying Php 888, instead of the regular price of almost Php 1,900. And as we just usually see each other during Christmas or in special events (for instance, Czare’s wedding last year), it was one of the few moments we get to see each other and catch up.

The Heat in Shangri-la

It was a very rainy afternoon, and I was to meet Mon in Shangri-la Mall. I don’t frequent the place so I usually get lost there, but we still managed to find our way to the hotel, where Heat was located. We thought we were the first ones in, but Len and Alex were already getting their first meal from the buffet area. The last time I was there,  I was so hungry that I did not bother choosing carefully the food I had eaten. My plate was so unappetizing that it looked like it was my first meal of the day.

Everybody arrived, and by the time the last pair came in, I was already on my third plate. From the last time I’ve seen my friends, a lot of interesting things have happened to them. The flow of conversation even reached politics, given it was the height of pork barrel scam. Knowing that I am currently affiliated with an NGO, there were awkward questions and jokes about the PDAF scandal thrown at me. But they were all just in jest.

Anyway, I knew that Mon was very keen to reach the desserts area (given that he has a sweet tooth), and I was delighted to see the crêperie void of people. I immediately ordered our favorite blueberry and mango crepe (which was the first of two), and picked one of each sweet pastries by the table in front of it. I was literally a kid in a candy shop. I also got interested with the newly-refilled, yummy looking giant shrimps, as it reminded me of that lobster dish from the latest season of Masterchef.

The biggest shrimp I've ever seen (or at least I think these were shrimps)

I had two of the mango-blueberry crepe

Desserts!

I wish we could have stayed longer, but we were there until the restaurant closed at around 10:00 PM, so we had maximized our share of the bill anyway. I had to wake up very early as well, given that tomorrow will be a Monday again.

Full and happy until the buffet closed
